Terry Says Happy new year to you all, with this my first column of 2009, a year which I believe promises to be a very exciting year for those of us who earn our corn from betting. Let’s face it, being able to eke out a nice profit by working for yourself and generating a tax-free income from betting (without moving to Switzerland, Lewis Hamilton style) will no doubt raise more than a few eyebrows in the current gloomy economic climate. Sadly, the number of unemployed in the UK alone is expected to rise by 600,000 this year and I believe there will be no shortage of individuals looking to develop a new income stream. The smart cookies out there will be those that look to the area of betting, and who decide to treat this area professionally. By professionally I don’t mean spending hours upon hours doing research, working out complicated equations or developing your own betting systems. There are actually really only 2 main pointers to getting it right…. Point one is to utilize a professional service such as ours at the Secret Betting Club that provides all the necessary information and expertise on how you can soon be up and running betting profitably. Point two is that you need to adopt some professional attitudes such as betting bank management, long-term thinking and understanding the straight-forward and simple to follow advice that can turn an amateur loser into a professional winner. Put them together and over time, voila! You will make it happen. Stats are always being bandied about that suggest only around 1% of those that bet make a profit of a level you can live off from betting. Well I believe that through our work at the Secret Betting Club that we probably contain a good segment of the 1% of people who make a success out of betting profitably. Betting for a living does also bring up a few other unexpected challenges, the least of which sometimes is what exactly to tell people about your occupation is! It’s a very male trait in particular to be defined by your job and very often the first thing someone will ask you upon meeting you for the first time is ‘So….what do you do?’ If you reply with something expected such as ‘accountant’ or ‘engineer’ then all will proceed as normal but when you state ‘Oh I’m a pro gambler’, it never leads to just a brief chin-wag. These days to protect myself from these long-drawn out job explanations with every Tom, Dick and Harry that I meet, I often dream up entertaining responses for my livelihood, anything that avoids the usual amazement. Still as that is one of the few down-sides to betting profitably, it’s a fairly minor moan really so mustn’t grumble too much. Until next Friday… Terry Allen
2. The Next Week In Betting A feast of sport over the festive period will no doubt have kept us all busy with plenty of racing, football, darts and cricket to shake a very large stick at. January sees for one thing the start of the Tennis season after a few months off as the players start the build-up to the first grand slam of the year over in Australia. As I write this, Andy Murray is taking on Roger Federer out in Abu Dhabi and the Swiss ace is best priced 9/4 with Sporting Bet to win the Australian Open at the moment. My friends in the know when it comes to Tennis tell me not to expect the usual Federer domination this year (as we started to see in 2008) and that 9/4 looks a fair bit short. Rafa Nadal outright at 7/2 with VCBet offers a lot more value it seems. The romance of the FA cup returns this weekend after one of the dullest finals I can remember last May when Portsmouth took home the spoils with a bore-athon 1-0 defeat of Cardiff. With Pompey now a selling club and looking destined for a relegation battle with the woeful Tony Adams in charge, it’s highly unlikely they will repeat the feat this year at 40/1 with Paddy Power. With the closeness of the title race and the big 4 all still in Europe, they might again not have it all their own way this time around if fielding weakened sides and I like the look of a couple of outsiders. Obviously we need a kind draw as we go along but one of the most improved teams this year is Fulham who are 66/1 outright with Bet365. The Cottagers could be worth a small punt as might Everton at a very generous looking 25/1 with Ladbrokes, especially when you consider that Man City are only best priced 16/1. I know City’s owners are burning a hole in their pocket with all their oodles of cash but they defend like a pub team and I couldn’t take such a short price, whereas at least the Toffees play like a team (albeit one with no fit strikers). As for this weekend’s matches there are a couple of potential giant-killings with Barrow taking on an out-of-sorts Middlesbrough at 16/1 with Bet365 to win at the Riverside. I think they would need to at least triple those odds for a more likely probability of an away win though! A few outsiders do interest me and might be worth a small punt or a look at the Asian Handicaps, in particular Peterborough away at West Brom (6/1 with Skybet), Crewe away at Millwall (6/1 with Hills) and Bristol City away to Portsmouth (5/1 with Bet365). It will also be interesting to see how Liverpool fare away at Preston, especially with all the problems surrounding Steven Gerrard this past week. Rafa Benitez doesn’t take the FA Cup seriously and the 7/1 with Ladbrokes for an upset looks worth a look at, as again do the Asian Handicap odds (Preston +1 at 41/40 with VCBet). Lots going on in the world of Cricket over the past week or so with a definite changing of the guard down under with South Africa looking to whitewash the Aussies in their own back-yard for the first time in donkeys years. A seriously weakened and demoralized Australian team look set to struggle again and the 9/4 from Bet365 on their opponents to win looks excellent. With the tigerish Graeme Smith playing his last game for a month or so before the return series over in South Africa, and the motivation of being the number one team in the world if they win this game, there is every motivation for the away team. The main issue is the draw but Sydney is normally a result wicket and I don’t see the Aussies taking 20 wickets to win. I wouldn’t rule out laying the draw at Betfair at 2.6 and then trading the game from there on in either if you prefer that method. ******************************************************************************** Featuring up to date and full reviews of some of the most talked about tipping services (good and bad) 3. 4. The Winabobatoo Weekender I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year. It’s at this time of year that we tend to look back at what has gone before and plan ahead for the future. I’m consulting my members at Winabobatoo at the moment to find out how we can possibly make things better for the 2009-2010 football season. We’re also reflecting on the fact that during the calendar year of 2008, there were a total of 525 bets given, finding 267 winners, and making a profit of 73.33 points to one point stakes on each bets. That would have been a profit of £733 from placing £10 on each bet – all single win bets on the home team to win, or the away to win. The challenge of identifying one game for you each weekend is quite a tall order as it is much better to have a larger number of bets each weekend rather than put all your eggs in one basket. Our results show that over the past 11 weeks, the returns from staking one point each on a total of 152 bets has generated a 40.82 pt profit. This weekend is a quiet weekend for us as we don’t bet in Cup matches but I’ve selected a Conference game for you this week. Wrexham are going well at the moment and are fancied to beat an out of form Ebbsfleet team who have only won one of their last 6 matches. They are available with Hills at 2.30 (13/10.) Have a bet on Wrexham to beat Ebbsfleet at 2.30 (13/10) available with Hills Good luck with your betting. Mike Lindley (www.winabobatoo.co.uk) Interested in Winabobatoo? Hi everybody, Once again I wish you a happy, healthy, successful 2009 – I'm not completely satisfied with 2008 (I still have nightmares about August & September), but it was another profitable year and that's what's most important. However, I'll do my best to make 2009 a much better year in terms of RoI and units won. 've always liked fresh starts. 3/1/2009 BLUE SQUARE PREMIER (-1.25) STEVENAGE – Lewes 1 (1.86 @ Ladbrokes) 5 units Stevenage are on a seven-match unbeaten run that started away at Lewes (it was 2:0 for Stevenage a month ago) – they have two consecutive handicap wins at home (4:1 vs St Albans in the FA Trophy, 3:1 vs Rushden), their best scorer Morison scored six goals in these seven matches (and he didn't even play in all of the matches) and I'm pretty sure they'll score a couple of goals in this match – they want a play-off spot and after that terrible start of the season, they just need their unbeaten run to continue for a few more matches and they'll be up there – and, looking at their team, it would be a surprise if they don't make it to the play-offs. Lewes brought in a new striker on loan from Bristol Rovers, Klein-Davies, but as he didn't start a single league match during his one-month stay at BS South strugglers Newport (and he failed to score a single goal), I don't see it as a big problem. Lewes failed to score in the last three matches/defeats (0:2 to Woking, 0:1 at Eastbourne, 0:2 to Eastbourne), they have major selection problems (Gargan is injured, Hinshelwood returned to Brighton, Thomas could return to his parent club before this match too, Elliott is injured, Rowland is out for the rest of the season, Standing is a big doubt and their best scorer Taylor left them back in November) and they're simply not good enough for BS Premier. Lewes rarely concede five or six goals, but I'd be more than satisfied with another 2:0 defeat. If Stevenage win by one goal exactly, we lose two and a half units. (1.85 at Victor Chandler, 1.84 at Pinnacle, 1.82 at Bet365...)
