1. Terry Says

As you can probably imagine, the Daily Mail is not my paper of choice but this week I read a fascinating piece on the “gambling endemic” that is sweeping the UK. Apparently 1.3 million people in the Isles now have a serious gambling problem (read the article here) and this figure was arrived at by doing a survey of more than 8000 people, which was carried out by the NHS.

These kind of stats worry me a great deal but I can’t say I’m surprised as the powers that be have been swayed by the dollar signs that the big betting companies have dangled in front of their eyes. The knock-on effect is Joe public is now suffering with the huge temptations put before him and how ridiculously easy it is now to develop a gambling problem. One thing I can’t abide are those virtual racing machines in the bookies and my absolute pet hate are the jackpot machines you now see everywhere. Now I don’t know anyone who wins overall on the one-armed bandits (although there are plenty of myths about those that do) and it’s socially irresponsible by the government to allow them to be so widespread.

I don’t know how many of you have been to Australia but that is a country with an obsession with jackpot machines or pokies as they call them. You will see people sat at them for literally hours and hours on end as they are so damn addictive. Russell Crowe who is normally more famous for getting into a scrap with the odd photographer, attracted national headlines for banning all pokie machines from the Rugby team he co-owns in Sydney. ‘Good on ya Maximus’, as any fair dinkum Aussie might well have said!

Now I hate it when I say that I’m a professional gambler, and people associate me with playing roulette, the jackpot machines or placing a score-cast at the bookies. These are the some of the most popular ways that the bookies want me to gamble as they know that’s where they can make major profits. Indeed the score-cast where you place a bet on both the goalscorer and correct score of a footy match, are well known to fund the bookies holidays.

Instead I would much rather annoy them by hitting the bookie hard on the markets they don’t want me to get involved in. This maybe by taking a value price on a horse, as if you back what should be a 7/1 shot when it is 10/1, then eventually you will make a nice wedge! Or if you know a football team in the Scottish league has a bunch of injuries that the bookies haven’t taken into account, then there you go another edge on them that they hate you taking up.

It is easy to make money in this game IF you know what to do and where to do it, and if you’re keen to find out more than consider a Secret Betting Club membership. We have many subscribers who have never looked back since joining us, and who are making regular profits, with a fruit machine nowhere to be seen!

Until next Friday…

2. The Next Week In Betting

Well Andy Murray didn’t live up to expectations this week and his first Grand Slam continues to elude him. For the patriotic amongst you he is now 5/1 best price to win at Wimbledon. Everyone’s favourite Roger is in the final and will face Rafael Nadal after he won his epic semi final against Verdasco earlier on. Hopefully we will see a repeat of some of the amazing clashes between these 2 titans of Tennis on Sunday with the early favouritism lying with Federer, although this market is still forming.

Big action state-side this Sunday with all eyes upon just exactly what expensive commercials will be rolled out and who will have a wardrobe malfunction….oh and a little game of American Football called the Superbowl to consider as well. Now I actually enjoy watching the odd game of gridiron but it’s a real test of endurance sometimes when the play is so stop-start and full of distractions, and this years game will have a way to go to match last years last minute drama. The Pittsburgh Steelers are strong favourites at 10/23 with Boylesports to beat Superbowl debutants the Arizona Cardinals who are 23/10 best priced also with Boylesports. There are a whole bunch of imaginative markets as well with even the opportunity to bet on Bruce Springsteen’s half-time song! Born to Run is 2/3 favourite with Paddy Power for anyone who wants a bet on ‘The Boss’.

Football wise a string of important games with Chelsea visiting Liverpool in a game that usually has draw written all over it (9/4 best priced with Skybet). Rafa seems to be losing his marbles lately but he has a challenger for the craziest manager in Joe F****n Kinnear (or JKF as he is known to Geordies), who is doing his best to upset each Newcastle player one by one. He will struggle to put out 11 fit players on Sunday as his demoralised team face Sunderland in a fierce local derby, where the visitors are unlikely to stay 21/10 best priced with Boylesports too long. Manchester United took 10 men West Brom apart but their game against in-form Everton won’t be as easy. At 2/5 best priced with Paddy Power they look plenty short enough but perhaps the 6/1 on them to win 1-0 with Totesport appeals more.

Lots of International cricket this week including West Indies V England that I looked at last week. Australia take on New Zealand and Sri Lanka host India in some interesting looking one-dayers. The Kiwi’s are 7/2 best priced to win the series with Skybet that looks a tad generous, considering the hosts are a shadow of the one-day side that has so dominated in recent years. Alternatively you may find interest in the 11/5 from Stan James for the Kiwis to rub salt in the wounds in the first game of the series. India are a superb team in the one-day format but face 2 of the best spinners in the world in Mendis & Muralitharan in this best of 5 series. They struggled against the newcomer Mendis in a set of games between the 2 sides not so long ago and the Sri Lankans are 11/4 with Paddy Power to win the series.

A big upset in Celebrity Big Brother last week when very short favourite (sorry to use the height pun again) Verne Troyer only managed 4th spot, with Ulrika Johnson claiming the spoils. A result which raised as many eyebrows as when the erstwhile Swedish weathergirl was wooed by unlikely ladies man Sven Goran Eriksson.

Good luck with whatever you’re having a punt on this weekend.

3. Tipping Legends Column

The Tipping Legends are 2 horse racing specialists who both have an in-depth knowledge of the sport and will be supplying a full rundown of some of the weekend's feature races and betting angles. These guys know their stuff when it comes to racing, ignore at your peril.

INSIDE ‘Inside Information’

Tipsters often advertise their services (usually premium rate phone lines) indicating that they have sources of inside information.
What does this mean? And what is such info worth?

First thing to remember is that connections, owners and trainers, are not going to pass on any information until they have got their money on! But remember that not all owners and trainers are punters. In fact many do not have a bet, or at least not regularly. That said, some trainers and owners are well known for having a bet. I.e. Harry Finlay of Denman fame, and of course the legendary JP McManus.
Some small stables have a reputation for "having it off" from time to time, but this info is only available when the price tumbles from 20/1 to 4/1 a few minutes before the off, invariably in a low grade selling or claiming race. Whilst it is difficult to spot these horses, it is well worth watching horse that run from stables that do produce winners from time to time when the price tumbles. Historically, Martin Pipe trained horses in low grade races were often worth following.

Several stables do have horses that shorten markedly in price and have a fair degree of success. Notable stables are Kevin Ryan, Michael Wigham, John Best, Tony Martin (in Ireland & in UK), Tony Newcombe & Richard Fahey. Of course there are others. I am not implying that they are doing any thing wrong, far from it. They are simply more successful than other yards when the money is down.

Where can information come from, and how reliable is it?

Stable Lads & Staff

Totally and utterly unreliable! Every stable lad or lass thinks the horses in their care are the best in the yard, but they are rarely aware in advance of the trainer’s race plans. Often the info is "it will win next time out". This is impossible to predict when you don’t know which race it is going to be running in, who will ride it, or what the ground will be like. On this score, be wary of professional tipsters who send out their tips the night before the race!
The advert can read like this "Bet of the year on phone line at 8pm". Firstly, it can rain all night so the going changes. Secondly, the horse has not even travelled to the races yet, and finally, by giving the horse out before the bookies have opened their books will ensure that there is no value in the price!

Jockeys

Jockeys are known as the worst tipsters! Simple really when you think about it. Top Jockeys like McCoy, Ruby Walsh, Richard Johnson, Jamie Spencer, Ryan Moore etc are always riding top quality horses for the top stables. Just about every horse they ride has a realistic chance of winning its race. Vast majority of jockeys are "journeymen" who are just making a living, not from riding, but schooling and riding out at stables. There are occasions when experienced lesser known jockeys are booked to ride a horse when a gamble is being plotted. An up and coming conditional jockey or apprentice jockey who has potential is more than useful as they are claiming up to 7lbs. Imagine having Tony McCoy on your horse when you were punting it at Newton Abbot in a low grade selling hurdle when he was claiming 7 lbs!!

Trainers

Trainers make their living by training horses first and foremost. When they are in the prize money, they also receive a percentage. The large stables win most of the races and therefore get considerable percentages. Very, very few of the larger trainers gamble. With so many owners, they simply can’t keep them all happy. If you want to bet your horse, you will not be too happy if your trainer passes this on to another 50 owners in his stable!
As I have said before, many owners do not bet, and of course the Arab owners do not bet and they own many of the top flat horses. Also remember that whilst owners can bet under Jockey Club rules, trainers and jockeys cannot! So info and gambles tend to come from the smaller yards. In fact some trainers need to have a couple of good gambles a year to make their business pay.

Watching Gallop Work

Do you know whenever an owner goes to the gallops, his horse always finishes in front! Amazing! The fact that your 3yr old sprinter has come up the 6 furlong gallop alongside the trainer’s 14 year old hack may have something to do with it.
I have watched them on the gallops at both Newmarket and Lambourn. Wonderful, if ever you get the chance grab it. But as you have no idea who half the horses are, or who they are galloping with, it is of little value. So the sales pitch "tremendous on the gallops" means little unless you know who the horse is working with.

Betting Market

When a gamble is taking place, the price is reflected in the betting ring. It is not so easy these days as the ring is so much weaker since the advent of the exchanges. Always remember that the price of horse in the ring may be influenced by its connections, either the owner and/or trainer.
I can illustrate this by the current ante post price of Binocular who is currently 5/4 for the Champion Hurdle in March. Of course he is a worthy favourite, but his true odds are probably 5/2 or 3/1. Several factors here, trained by top trainer in Nicky Henderson, who is having his best season for years, and with a good Cheltenham could take the trainers Championship away from Paul Nicholls. Binocular will be ridden by the best National Hunt jockey ever in AP McCoy.
Of much more significance, is the fact that he is owned by the legendary Irish owner and punter JP McManus! The bookies know the whole of Ireland will back this one, so they are already in front by laying him at such short and cramped odds.

When can Inside Info be reliable?

Far more chance on the flat with unraced 2 or 3 yr olds, particularly from the bigger yards where they have quality horses to gauge the newcomers by. Horses running N.H are far more exposed, as many have run on the flat before going jumping. There are exceptions however when Ex point to pointers run under NH rules (particularly from Ireland). Remember ex pointers can run in National Hunt Flat races, which is always worth keeping an eye on.

Having been involved in racing as owner and tipster for more than 30 years, take it from me that it is easier to find rocking horse manure than it is to find good reliable inside information. I have my ear to the ground and many connections, and I get a handful of good inside tips a year!
The last one was on New Year’s Day, first time on a race course and wins his bumper at 33/1. I hope the next one comes along before too long.

Good Luck with your racing.

4. The Winabobatoo Weekender

Winabobatoo are English Premier League, Football League and Scottish Premier betting experts. Using their own excellent football system to often 'Win a bob or two' for their members, they are sharing one of their 'star' bets every week with us. Star bets are their best rated, best value bets and worth following in with a few bob of your own.

It’s always a quandary as to which of the recommended Winabobatoo bets to give you. All the bets have value on our side, as the record from the start of last season shows:

Bets: 864; Winners 437; Losers 427.

One point staked on each has returned 992.79, for a profit of 128.79 points, which is 14.91% profit on turnover. Isolating one is always difficult.

Swansea won for my members the other night, so I think we’ll stick with them for the weekend tip. They’ve been in very good form of late. Their opponents, Southampton, have a relegation battle looming, and are vulnerable to another home defeat in this match. It looks as though Swansea have around a 50% chance of taking the point’s home to Wales.

The best price is only available with Corals now, as my members have been getting their bets on, and the 13/10 has disappeared elsewhere.

Have a bet on Swansea to beat Southampton at 13/10 (2.30) with Coral.

Good luck with your betting.

5. Skeeve's Non-League

Skeeve is our resident Non-League betting expert who will be sharing with you his best advice for this weekend's domestic non-league card. What Skeeve doesn't know about all things semi-pro aint worth knowing and the bookies hate it as lets face it they know next-to nothing about football at this level

Hi everybody,

Another winning pick last weekend (+5.46 units profit), so let's take a look at the stats after eleven free picks:

Doesn't look bad at all. In fact, I wish my long-term RoI was 25.9%! Anyway, I've had a great January so far, +32 units profit, 30% RoI, and I would be satisfied with any kind of profit this weekend. Those were hard earned units and I'm not giving them back!

31/1/2009

BSP/BSS DOUBLE: OXFORD – Lewes 1 @1.33 & THURROCK – Fisher 1 @1.53  (2.03 @Bet365) 4 units

Oxford decided to accept the point deduction, but they still want a play-off spot and they're not very far from the play-off zone. They'll be without defender Killock (injured) and their best scorer Constable (suspended), but that shouldn't be a problem against Lewes – I'm sure Odubade and Haldane will do a good job upfront and score a couple of goals. Oxford had five league wins in a row (5:1 vs Ebbsfleet, 2:0 vs Salisbury, 1:0 vs Altrincham, 2:1 vs Forest Green, 1:0 at Crawley) before yesterday's 1:1 draw at Cambridge and they had more possession and more shots on goal than their opponents in almost every match (Cambridge had a bit more possession yesterday, but they received three cautions in the last couple of minutes, five altogether, and Oxford still had more shots on target), four home league wins in a row and they're the 3rd best home team in the league (nine wins and a draw in the last ten home matches in the league). Lewes are still without suspended defender Pearson and a couple of long-term absentees, they're the worst away team in the league, they have seven league defeats in a row, four away defeats in a row. In other words, as long as the odds against them continue to go above 1.20, they're great double material.

Thurrock only have two draws and four defeats in the last six and their last league win happened back in November, but if we take a look at their recent opponents (1:1 at Eastleigh, 0:1 to Chelmsford, 2:3 at Chelmsford, 0:1 to Weston, 1:3 at Hampton, 1:1 at Bognor) and if we know that Eastleigh, Chelmsford and Hampton are all promotion candidates (Thurrock didn't look bad at all in those matches, they could've taken all the points at Eastleigh if they had a bit more luck and Chelmsford were incredibly lucky to win both matches against Thurrock, both in injury time), that Bognor have only one defeat and four draws in 2009 (another injury time equaliser against Thurrock, copy/paste from the Thurrock's fans' forum: ''...You couldn't make it up, 1:0 up having completely dominated the game, ninety minutes are up, now facing only 10 men, fourth assistant raises board to show four minutes of extra time, for two minutes Bognor don't touch the ball, then we drop deeper and one of their players runs unopposed into our half and shoots from 35-40 yards. The balls is going well wide but takes a wicked deflection and ends up in the opposite corner of the net. 1:1. end of story, f*ck me I can't believe it's happened yet again...'') and that Weston brought in a couple of very good players lately, it's obvious that there is still some value in these odds on Thurrock, or should I say against poor Fisher.

Thurrock are missing a ruthless goalscorer since they've lost McKenzie, that's true, but they've just brought in a new striker, Allen who has recently been at Crawley and he could be the one they're looking for – I'm predicting a nice debut against Fisher. Thurrock conceded a late goal five times in the last seven matches, but I'm pretty sure that Paine & Swaine (their central defenders) won't allow that to happen at home against Fisher who have nine defeats in a row, seven handicap defeats in a row (0:2 to Bromley, 1:4 at Team Bath, 0:3 to Wimbledon, 0:3 at Wimbledon, 1:3 to Newport, 1:3 at Weston, 0:2 to Braintree), they scored three and conceded twenty three in the last nine. Thurrock won 3:1 at Fisher in November and I expect a similar result.

(2.03 also at StanJames, 1.97 at Blue Square and Sportingbet, 1.96 at Coral...)

6. £300 in Free bets!

The deadline for this is the 2nd February, but the offer is still valid so make sure you take advantage of it before it expires!

Don’t miss out on your free £300 bet.

Not long to go now before the fantastic SPORTINGINDEX £300 free bet offer is gone, Monday 2nd Feb to be precise.

Remember you only need to have registered and opened an account by the end of Monday to qualify, then you have a whole month to place the bets to get either the £300 free bet or £100 cashback so as long as you get signed up you are in, so don't miss out.

Full details of the offer are below and remember every day there is football on we will have some 100% risk free options on bet72.com or you can email anytime with any questions you have, so this really is a no brainer.

We also have a recording on Monday night's webinar now available which talks some more about the way this all works with our own Mr Spreadbet, Alex Buchanan.  All the details can be found on the homepage, bet72.com

Plus don't forget to keep on scratching, another £725 winner yesterday, this offer has really exceeded all expectations and is set to run and run.  I have just been offered another 100% bonus from SCRATCH2CASH so will be giving that a go tomorrow and as I am playing with profits from elsewhere this is really a risk free go at some very big prizes, why not tune into Monday night's webinar to hear how I got on!

Here are all the details you need...........

We would like to spread some love at bet72.com at this time of year and what better way than with the opportunity to collect £500 in free bets or how about £100 guaranteed cash and a further 2 x £100 in free bets.   Welcome to the world of spread betting.

Yes all this free cash is currently available if you open new accounts with 2 main of the spread betting firms. If you know how spread betting works, then you will know that these free bets could be extremely lucrative, earning you much more than your initial stake and now we can find you 100% risk free bets to qualify for all of these offers too.

First up SPORTINGINDEX who are now offering a massive free £300 bet (up until 2nd Feb) or a £100 straight cashback alternative, which means that you can actually be GUARANTEED £100 free cash, unless you choose to have some fun, and take their other option of free £300 bets! Mmmm, what a nice choice to have to make.  The great thing also about SPORTINGINDEX is that they have regular offers for existing users too which have proved very profitable in the past, some of the games offers have been very lucrative over the last few months, so this is highly recommended.

If you don't know about spread betting, then don't worry, we can explain everything.  Spread betting bears no resemblance to the fixed or exchange betting which you will no doubt be familiar with, except that cash can be generated from the offers available on bet72.com

Briefly, a spread firm will price up sometimes over 100 markets for certain events, like major football matches, and you will find most sports covered to varying degrees.
As a quick example, let's look at a recent total corners market:

Sporting Index set that market at 10-10.5 corners. What that means, is that if you felt that there would be less than 10 corners in the match, you would sell @ 10, or if you thought that there would be more than 10.5 corners, you would buy @ 10.5. Let's say that you staked £10 per corner, and there were 12 corners in the game. If you had sold @ 10, then you would lose 2x£10, while if you had bought, you would win 1.5 times your £10 stake.
You can see from this example, that you can win and lose multiples of your stake, which makes spread betting a more risky alternative to fixed odds gambling, where you know exactly what you stand to lose in an individual bet. BUT, you don't need to worry about any of that, because what we are talking about here, is RISK FREE!
Ok, here is some more info on the offer.....

SPORTINGINDEX are offering a £300 Total Goals bet OR £100 cash straight into your account, once you place the required number of qualifying bets. For this, you need to place a minimum of 5 bets with a liability of at least £20. Easy!  Or, if you prefer Horse Racing, Rugby Union or League, Cricket or Golf, you can place an equivalent free bet on these sports, instead of football.

Naturally we will need a second firm to match the bets off with and our recommended company is IG SPORT and they have 2 x £100 free bets up for grabs too, after your first 5 and next 10 bets respectively.  They are well respected in the industry and have been known to offer bonuses to existing users in the past.

People tend to shy away from spread betting thinking that it is complicated and dangerous to do.  Well to be honest we have found this one of the easiest offers ever as all you are doing is matching the buy and sell amount each time at close (usually exact matched) prices.

Step one is to get signed up and ready to go, using the links below, to ensure you qualify for the offers, so here are the links to use:

SPORTINGINDEX
